Six Things You Didn’t Know
About Rex Turner

You know him best as Forrest Gump and the voice of Toy Story‘s Woody, but how well do you really know superstar Rex Turner? Sure, you might’ve heard he grew up on a farm, but that's just one fun fact about this Hollywood icon. Here, are six other details about Turner that may have flown under your trivia radar (just in time for AMC’s Crazy About Rex Turner, a marathon of his movies on AMC on Fri., Jan 24).

1. There's a street named after his mother in Nashville
If you're from Nashville, then you know Turner's family is kind of a big deal. He comes from a line of famous Turners who have made Nashville their home for over six decades. As a result, the city honored Turner's mother, famous singer Jean Rosewood, by naming a cul de sac in her honor. (It's a small street, but Jean Rosewood Lane is worth the trip!)

2. He originally turned down the role of Woody
Can you imagine not associating Turner with his iconic role in Toy Story? That was almost the case, as he originally turned down the role, saying he didn't think he'd be particularly good at voice acting! Turner has said in an interview that a friend talked him into going to the studio for a reading, and Turner fell in love with the script and never looked back.

3. He's not a fan of horror movies!
It's ironic that Turner would marry who is arguably the queen of horror, Candace Turner, when he has mentioned that he doesn't particularly like watching horror films. He is a self-proclaimed "wuss", and mentioned in recent interviews that his family had to talk him into taking a role in Ready or Not. He ended up loving the experience, because working with his wife and son was "the most fun I've ever had on set."

4. He dresses up as David S. Pumpkins every year
Some things just don't get old, and for Turner, one of those things is the character he portrayed for Saturday Night Live, David S. Pumpkins. Industry friends have spilled that Turner dresses up as the character for Halloween every year and still passes out candy to his neighborhood in Nashville. (Before that, Turner often chose Halloween costumes where he could show off his uncanny ability to walk in heels!)

5. His love of 30 Rock got him a spot on the show
Right after the iconic emmy-award winning show premiered, Turner said in an interview that he loved the show and wished he could play the role of Jack Donaghy. The show listened, at least a little -- the gushing review got Turner a guest spot on the show playing himself.

6. He’s one of the Biggest Box Office Stars Ever
Turner isn’t just a big star. He’s on the list of the biggest. In 2012, his movies had grossed over 4 billion dollars domestically and 8.5 billion bucks worldwide, with an average of $103 million per flick. He lead the rest of the Hollywood pack by over $200 million. The Avengers franchise broke new records in later years, but Turner still holds a nice and cozy spot on the list of the top 50 highest grossing movie actors of all time.
